G'Bye to T'Bay

Rules of Fringeing (Pt. 4)

4. Everyone makes money in Thunder Bay. Except me.

Well that's not exactly true. I only had four shows, and the first two were a little dry (small houses) but the last two were great. Now if I only had 8 more I'd be rolling in it!

I have to learn to be more aggressive. I'm soooo not. Last night about a dozen fringe performers came to see my last show, and afterwards they all came up to me, glowing, shaking my hand, loving the show. "Why didn't you TELL us it was amazing?!! Why didn't we see this SOONER? We could have DONE something! Let me buy you a drink..." I thought I HAD told everyone to come see my show, that it was good, but according to them I had been much more low key about the whole thing. Like, "hey, yeah, so I'm doing a show, eh?" It's tough for me - I'm really quite shy, and it just feels unnatural to boast. I hate to intrude.

But last night was wonderful. I felt great - it was the first show I'd had where I didn't have a migraine or a lingering hangover - and the reaction from the crowd all through the show was fantastic. What a power that is. What a high! I loved it.

Afterwards, Barnaby helped me wheel my set (suitcase and chair) down to the fringe office to collect money for the last two shows - fringe business DONE - then we met up with the others at the bar, appropriately called The Madhouse (appropriate for a roomful of actors, anyway). We ate, we drank, we toasted Thunder Bay, we exchanged email addresses, we felt once more like a group of Bohemians ready to change the world with our unique vision. This was more like a scene out of La Boheme; the comraderie, the late night suppers, the overflowing beer. Life was great! and we were spending the very little cash we had - after all, tomorrow one could get hit by a bus.

Vive la vie boheme!

This may seem a bit random, however, I actually saw that last show of yours and absolutely adored it! ((So much so that I snatched one of your posters on my way out and even brought it to a new city with me and decided to look you up on these "series of tubes")) Anyhow, on with the point: I absolutely your acting and writing and hope to see you again! I think you are amazing and I am very please to hear that you are still in the field. Once and a while I pretend to be a writetress and an actress, however I generally stick to graphic design. Anyhow, with all poor sentence and paragraph structure behind us, I want to wish you more success for the future. Also, if you do the msn or email correspondence I'd love to talk to you sometime.

Take Care,
Kayla
