Visual agnosia is the inability of the brain to make sense of or make use of some part of otherwise normal visual stimulus and is typified by the inability to recognize familiar objects or faces. - the People's Resource: Wikipedia
Visual agnosia is related to aphasia, which is a symptom of migraines. I get migraines.
Last night I was at a show, a late night talk show, suffering from some of my aura symptoms - a creeping, weird headache, not terrible, but enough to be a drag. And, as my boyfriend pointed out repeatedly and with a hint of disgust, I was "really out of it." Nonetheless, I tried to enjoy the show.
The hosts pointed out a white board where their myspace site's address was written. I tried, I mean, I REAAAAALLY tried to make sense of it. I read it over and over again, trying to memorize it, since I hoped to look it up on the internet when I got home. This is what I could make out:
"Seeezah - a - bleemen." I read it as many ways as I could, breaking up the syllables where I could, and that's the best I could do. Seezeh, a-bleemen. "What the hell is that?" I thought. Why would they pick such a difficult name to remember? How am I ever going to remember that?
A few moments later, one of the hosts mentions the myspace site again. "Remember to leave us a comment at double you double you double you dot sizeable men dot com." Sizeable. Men. That's what the damn thing said. www.myspace.com/sizeablemen
Well that made much more sense than seezeh-a-bleemen.
I recovered my senses sometime the next day, to the extreme relief of my annoyed boyfriend. He sometimes can be impatient with stupidity. It is at those times that I remind him that he once argued that there couldn't possibly by more Vitamin C in spinach than in oranges, since Vitamin C tablets all taste like orange, and not spinach...
Perhaps we are well suited to each other after all.
